§ Mr. Bishop
asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what plans he now has to increase the grants to sports, voluntary bodies and organisations for charitable purposes in view of the pos- 86W sible increased costs to be borne by them following the introduction of value added tax.
§ Mr. Eldon Griffiths
Grants for sport, including grants to governing bodies and clubs, are a matter for the Sports Council, which takes account of all relevant considerations. On the impact of VAT on charities, I would refer the hon. Member to what was said by my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer during the discussion on Report of Clause 15 of the Finance Bill on 12th July last.
