HC Deb 17 October 1972 vol 843 cc47-8W
Mr. Douglas-Mann

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what proportion of the available bookings of playing fields in London parks within the control of his Department are taken up by private schools.

Mr. Amery

About one third.

Mr. Douglas-Mann

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many applications for playing fields in London parks under the control of his Department by State schools during the last three years have been refused.

Mr. Amery

None.

Mr. Douglas-Mann

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment on what basis bookings by schools of playing fields in London parks within the control of his Department are allocated.

Mr. Amery

The Inner London Education Authority on behalf of the State schools submits a schedule of proposed bookings to the Bailiff of the Royal Parks at the beginning of each school term. Some 10 private and local schools make their applications nearer the times of proposed use. So far it has been possible to accept all proposed bookings and the Royal Parks staff on the spot allocate pitches to meet the bookings.
