HC Deb 24 May 1972 vol 837 c400W
Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what methods are adopted to ensure that travellers from the United Kingdom are advised of the presence of smallpox, poliomyelitis and other infectious diseases in tourist areas overseas; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Alison

In the event of an outbreak of infectious disease my Department is given information by the World Health Organisation and passes this on to ports, airports, airlines, travel agents and other interested organisations, with up-to-date news and advice about necessary precautions.

Information is also given to the Press and other news media.

Areas where diseases are endemic are listed in the leaflet "Notice to Travellers—Health Protection", a revised edition of which is being printed and which is made available to intending travellers through local authorites, travel agents, airlines and other organisations concerned.
