HC Deb 09 May 1972 vol 836 c300W
26. Mr. McCrindle

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will introduce legislation making pension books in future negotiable instruments.

Mr. Dean

The present system is satisfactory for the great majority of pensioners and protects them by making the order book unattractive as an object for theft. It enables a lost book to be replaced with a minimum of delay and ensures that orders are cashed for the full value. I see no reason for changes, but if my hon. Friend has a particular case of difficulty in mind I will be pleased to look into it.
