§ Mr. Ian Lloydasked the Secretary of State for Employment what proposals he has to improve the accuracy and relevance of unemployment statistics by the use of household surveys or other methods designed to distinguish short-term unemployment, structural unemployment and changes in unemployment directly attributable to changes in unemployment insurance or redundancy payments.
§ Mr. Dudley Smith:Consideration is currently being given to the desirability of holding a household labour force survey in 1973. Such a survey would not necessarily provide all of the details sought about unemployment. Information about the duration of current spells 56W of registered unemployment is already published monthly in the Department of Employment Gazette.
