§ 44. Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) on how many occasions police cars in the Metropolitan Police area have been sent together with police officers to trade union strikers to deliver messages to tell them to report for work; and whether he will cause a further investigation to be made into the case of the two railway strikers who were so visited by police on Sunday, 14th May,1972;
(2) why the police acted as messengers for the Railways Board in asking striking railway workers to return to work on Sunday, 14th May; and whether the police will deliver such private messages for private persons where there is no question of danger or loss of life to either the message sender or the recipient.
§ Mr. CarlisleThe circumstances in which messages were delivered on 14th May have been investigated by the Commissioner of Police for the Metropolis and an explanation has been given to the hon. Member. I see no need for further inquiry.
