§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will now take whatever action may be necessary to ensure an increase in the wages and salaries of all staff and employees coming within his Ministerial control, including the police, retrospective to 1st January, 1972.
§ Mr. MaudlingThis would not be appropriate. The wages and salaries of the groups of staff for whom I have responsibility are best left to the regular reviews for which there are agreed procedures.
§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will give the salaries of the 24 staff in his Department who will, under the Boyle Report, receive an 18 per cent. increase in their salaries; and what they will be on the implementation of this report.
§ Mr. MaudlingI did not say that there were 24 staff in my Department who will receive an 18 per cent. increase. The salaries of the Permanent Undersecretary of State, the four officers at the level of Deputy Under-Secretary of State, and the 18 officers at the level of 215W Assistant Under-Secretary of State will be increased from £14,000, £9,000 and £6,750 to £15,750, £10,500 and £8,250, respectively. In addition there will be a comparable increase in the salary of one officer which is between that of Assistant Under-Scretary of State and Deputy Under-Secretary of State.
