HC Deb 06 July 1972 vol 840 c215W
Mr. Rose

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will list his powers to withhold permission for the setting-up of offices in Great Britan by organisations involved in breaking international law and piracy.

Mr. Maudling

I have no power to prevent an organisation from setting up an office. But any application for a visa connected with the work proposed would be considered in the light of circumstances at the time. I would not hesitate to use my powers to refuse admission to, or deport, any alien who there was reason to believe might engage in acts of violence or encourage or incite such acts. Any British citizen who engaged in such activities would be dealt with in accordance with the criminal law.
