HC Deb 24 January 1972 vol 829 c333W
Mr. Redmond

asked the Secretary of State for Employment whether, in view of the number of young people in Bolton who have recently left school without getting permanent employment and who in some cases are seeking jobs for the third time, what steps he proposes to take to improve liaison between the officers of his Department and the schools.

Mr. Dudley Smith

In Bolton, where the Youth Employment Service is provided by the local education authority, there is already good liaison between careers officers and the schools. The 25 school leavers registered as unemployed in January represent less than 2 per cent. of the 1,500 young people who left school last summer.

In the circumstances I do not think it is necessary to take further steps to improve local liaison.
