HC Deb 04 December 1972 vol 847 cc312-3W
Mr. James Lamond

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the ratio of patients per dental practitioner in the area of the Oldham Health Executive, and how this compares with the ratio for the country as a whole.

Mr. Alison

Twenty-two dentists (principals and assistants) were providing general dental services in Oldham at 30th November, 1972.

On the basis of the estimated population at 30th June, 1972 this represents a ratio of persons to dentists of 4,766 to one although this does not necessarily give a true picture of the availability of dentists to the population of the county borough alone.

Comparable figures for England and Wales, which relate to 30th September, 1971 were 4,431 to one.
