HC Deb 09 August 1972 vol 842 c487W
Mr. Roger White

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what proposals he has for improving the criminal statistics.

Mr. R. Carr

The Departmental Committee on Criminal Statistics—the Perks Committee—which reported in 1967, made a number of recommendations for improving the criminal statistics. Full implementation of these recommendations would require additional expenditure and manpower which I do not believe would be justified at the present time. However, I accept the main recommendations in principle, and I hope to make a start on their implementation, beginning with the statistics of crimes of violence against the person, as and when the necessary resources can be made available.
