HC Deb 02 August 1972 vol 842 c136W
49. Mr. Pentland

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what proposals have been made to him on the establishment of a further new town in the Chester-le-Street constituency area; and if he will make a statement about his intentions towards implementing such proposals.

Mr. Graham Page

In a study outlining an urban strategy to the year 2000 for the Tyne and Wear area consultants propose that there should be a new township for between 25,000 and 30,000 people at Kibblesworth. My right hon. Friend would not wish to make any statement about this proposal until it has been studied by the local planning authorities and in due course by the Tyne and Wear Metropolitan County Council as part of their work on a structure plan.
