asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what considerations he has given to a feasibility study of a motorway from the Midlands to the East Anglian ports; and if he will make a statement.

Consultants are being appointed to carry out a feasibility study into a route to link the M1 near Northampton with the A1. The comprehensive improvement of the A45 between the Midlands and the East Anglian ports is being accelerated as announced last March.
