HC Deb 01 August 1972 vol 842 cc78-9W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Employment whether he is aware that the retail price index rose to 163.7 on 20th June, as against 162.6 in the previous month; and what was the reason for this rise.

Mr. Chichester-Clark

Yes. The rise in the index was due mainly to increases in the prices of beef, lamb, other meat, some fresh vegetables and meals bought and consumed outside the home. There were reductions in the prices of tomatoes and butter.
