§ Mr. McBrideasked the Secretary of State for Employment how many industrial training centres are located in South Wales; how many additional centres will be constructed in the next two years; how many places are available in the present centres; how many additional places will be provided in the next two years; what is the yearly total of trainees passing through these centres now; what will be the total in two years time; and what is the waiting list position as at 30th December, 1970, 30th December, 1971 and to the latest convenient date.
§ Mr. Chichester-ClarkThere are four Government training centres in South Wales, with 960 places, at which 1,540 trainees completed courses in the 12 months ended June, 1972. About 1,900 trainees are expected to complete courses in the 12 months ended June, 1974, when an additional 150 places will be available. The construction of a new centre to open by 1975 will begin as soon as possible after a suitable site has been acquired.
I regret that the information about waiting lists is not available in the form requested, but on 14th December, 1970, 391 applicants were waiting for a place at a Government training centre in Wales, compared with 655 on 13th December, 1971, and 658 on 12th June. 1972.
