asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how much productivity rose in manufacturing industry in each of the last five years.

Percentage increases over the previous year in output per person employed in manufacturing industry are as follows:

1967 2.8
1968 6.9
1969 2.1
1970 1.5
1971(provisional) 3.2

Persons employed include employees, employers and self-employed persons; full-time and part-time workers are all counted as full units. The figures are published regularly in the Monthly Digest of Statistics.
