asked Her Majesty's Government:

What representations have been made to date by the Gibraltar Government against the six-day minimum stay condition on night flights to Gibraltar; whether the matter has been reconsidered since the Minister without Portfolio on April 6 last said he would " pass it on " to his right honourable friend (Hansard, col. 198); and consequently whether they are prepared to abolish or reduce this condition.

The Government have reconsidered this condition as a result of the undertaking given on April 6 and of subsequent representations made by the Gibraltar Government, but have decided that it should be maintained in order to stop an unacceptable loss of revenue. This loss resulted from travellers who would otherwise pay the ordinary higher fares taking advantage of the lower excursion fares which were

designed to encourage new traffic. However, in order not to impede the flow of tourists to Gibraltar in the winter, the special group inclusive tour arrangements are to include facilities for short holidays of three or four days, instead of the minimum of six days.
