HC Deb 07 May 1971 vol 816 c464W
Mr. Golding

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, what is his estimate of the cross-subsidy from domestic consumers of liquid milk to manufacturers.

Mr. Anthony Stodart

The milk guarantee arrangements enable a reasonable return to be paid to milk producers and an adequate reserve for the supply of the liquid milk market to be maintained at all times.

The amount required from liquid milk consumers in the United Kingdom in 1970–71 in order to finance the guaranteed price for the milk which was within the standard quantity but was sold for manufacture was about £59 million.
