§ Mr. Pavittasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will now publish in the OFFICIAL REPORT, separate figures for public expenditure on health services and on social security benefits which make up the total per capita figures for the United Kingdom and the six countries of the Common Market in 1968.
§ Mr. DeanI would refer the hon. Member to the figures in my reply to my hon. Friend, the Member for Banbury (Mr. Marten) on 12th February. There is no separate health service in the six countries of the Common Market comparable to that in the United Kingdom. Medical and hospital treatment in the Six is an integral part of sickness insurance and industrial injuries insurance; separate figures for benefits in cash and kind are not available. Of the total of £91 per head of population for the United Kingdom, £45 relates to social security benefits and £46 to national health services.—[Vol. 811, c.292–3.]
