HC Deb 17 March 1971 vol 813 cc346-7W
Mr. Mudd

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what representations he has now received regarding the importation of rare animal furs; what has been the substance of these representations; and if he will re-examine the position with a view to banning the importation of such furs rather than placing the responsibility on the countries of origin.

Mr. Noble

The British Fur Trade Association has requested a meeting with the Department to discuss proposals for severe restrictions on imports of furs and skins of certain animals considered to be threatened with extinction. We have agreed to this request.
