Mr. Denis Howellasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will consider requiring part-time consultants in the National Health Service to make returns to their employing body stating the numbers of private patients they have treated in Health Service facilities; the use and occupancy of pay beds by their private patients; and the amount of fees earned by them when using such beds 275W and facilities for the treatment of private patients.
§ Sir K. JosephNo. Hospital authorities already record the number of private patients treated and bed use by private patients. Fees charged by the consultant to his private patient are a private transaction and are not the concern of the hospital authority.
