HC Deb 12 March 1971 vol 813 cc202-3W
Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what representations he has received from the North-West Industrial Development Association concerning the region's economic and environmental difficulties; what specific matters were raised with him by the association's deputation on 8th March, 1971; what replies he has made; and if he will now make a full statement of his plans for assisting the further development of the region.

Mr. Graham Page

The deputation raised the current economic and employment situation and the environmental problems of the North-West, including dereliction and general urban and industrial obsolescence. The deputation was assured that the Government would continue to help local authorities in their efforts to improve the environment, and it was agreed to examine further suggestions made about Government financial assistance.

I hope to ensure that the needs of the North-West are properly reflected in the public expenditure programmes for roads, housing, clearance of derelict land and other environmental improvements.
