asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will issue a statement on the Government's policy in the field of recreational provision.

Mr. Eldon Griffiths

The Government's policy is to encourage the provision of appropriate recreational facilities, in the right places and by the right bodies. More intensive use needs to be made of existing facilities and resources at present under-used should be brought forward more rapidly. Advice on this, on priorities, and on technical matters, is available from Regional Sports Councils and the Technical Unit for Sport.
