HC Deb 10 March 1971 vol 813 cc109-10W
Mr. Iremonger

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what has been the average rate of interest on local authority loans in the open market since 1964; and what estimate he has made of the percentage of vacant possession freehold value of rented property represented by the rents fixed by rent officers in London.

Mr. Channon

The annual average rate of interest on medium-term local authority loans from 1964 to 1970 was about 8 per cent., though interest rates vary depending on the type of loan and the borrowing period. No figures are available to give an accurate assessment of a registered rent as a percentage of the vacant possession freehold value of the same dwelling.
