HL Deb 10 March 1971 vol 316 c166WA
LORD GARDINER

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they propose to introduce a Bill to implement those recommendations of the Committee on the Enforcement of Judgment Debts which were not implemented in the Administration of Justice Act 1970; and, if so, when.

THE LORD CHANCELLOR (LORD HAILSHAM OF ST. MARYLEBONE)

The question of introducing legislation to implement the remaining recommendations of the Committee on the Enforcement of Judgment Debts will be considered when the county courts have had time to assimilate the increased jurisdiction under the Administration of Justice Act 1969 and the restrictions of imprisonment for debt and the extension of attachment of earnings under the Administration of Justice Act 1970. The changes to be made by the Courts Bill must also be taken into account. In the meantime it may well be possible to implement some of the recommendations by rules of court.
