§ Mr. Dudley SmithIn the area covered by the Portsmouth, Fareham, Gosport and Havant employment exchanges, the number registered as wholly unemployed exceeded the number of notified vacancies remaining unfilled by 983 in June, 1969, 1,748 in June, 1970, and 2,697 in June, 1971. The vacancy statistics relate only to vacancies notified to my Department and remaining unfilled and do not purport to measure the total unsatisfied demand for labour.
