§ Mr. Roderickasked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will introduce legislation to amend the General Rate Act, 1967, so that the total rateable value of a water undertaking can be varied when it adds to its installations, thus ensuring proper compensation for areas in which such installations are situated.
§ Mr. Graham PageThe formula in the General Rate Act, 1967, takes account of the growth of water undertakings by increasing the total rateable value according to the amount of water supplied. My right hon. Friend has no plans at present for amending legislation in this field, but consideration of the formula is, with many other rating matters, included in our general review of the rating system.
