HC Deb 08 February 1971 vol 811 c17W
96. Mr. Darling

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what steps he is taking to maintain the voluntary quota of imports of Japanese cutlery.

Sir J. Eden

This is a voluntary arrangement negotiated between the industry here and the Japanese exporters, and its continuation is a matter for them.

97. Mr. Darling

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what proposals he has to place before United Kingdom cutlery manufacturers for the reorganisation of companies and improvements in production processes and sales promotion, in order to assist them in regard to competition from imports of Japanese cutlery.

Sir J. Eden

None, but these are matters which could be discussed with the cutlery manufacturers if they think this would be helpful.
