HC Deb 04 February 1971 vol 810 c464W
Mr. William Hannan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he is satisfied that the increasing number of primary teachers from training colleges is now sufficient to deal with the increased school population, improved staffing standards and the abolition of part-time education; and what further steps he is taking to achieve these objectives.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

By 1972–73 there should be sufficient primary teachers in service to meet the improved staffing standards that I have decided to introduce but local shortages may persist while some places remain relatively unattractive to teachers.
