HC Deb 04 February 1971 vol 810 c428W
73. Mr. Faulds

asked the Minister of State for Defence whether he will take steps to provide the £20,000 needed to preserve the 153-year-old frigate "Foudroyant", launched in Bombay harbour and then know as the "Trincomalee", so that she may remain in use as a training ship for Her Majesty's Royal Navy.

Lord Balniel

The "Foudroyant" is owned by the Foudroyant Trust and is not used for naval training. I regret that there are no funds available on Defence Votes to assist in her preservation. We have, however, offered to dock her at a reduced rate.
