Mr. Leslie Huckfield

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the total number of new buses on which the grant of 25 per cent. of capital expenditure has been paid under Section 32 of the Transport Act, 1968; what was the total amount so paid; and what is the total number of new buses for which grant has been refused.

Mr. Peyton

£11.11 million was paid in new bus grant up to 31st December, 1970, but the number of vehicles involved is not readily available. Grant or approval in principle has been refused for 63 vehicles and for several non-standard designs of vehicle.
