§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he is aware that the authorities concerned issue licence renewal reminders to those having to pay a dog licence, radio and television licence, and a driving licence, respectively, but that no reminder is issued to car owners for their road excise licence and to heavy lorry drivers for their licences; and whether he will take steps to introduce such a reminder scheme in the future.
§ Mr. PeytonUnder the computer-based centralised licensing system now being planned reminders of the expiry of vehicle excise licences will be issued automatically. This would be impracticable under the present system. Arrangements have been made for reminders to be issued to holders of heavy goods vehicle drivers' licences when the first of these expire in 1972.
