asked the Minister of State for Defence if he will now undertake not to build a fifth Polaris submarine and not to convert the existing Polaris submarines to Poseidon multiple warheads.

asked the Minister of State for Defence if he will now give an undertaking that no nuclear rôle is foreseen by the Government for the Royal Air Force, and that this country deploys and will deploy no nuclear weapons other than those carried on Polaris submarines committed to the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation.

asked the Minister of State for Defence whether the proposed Anglo-French nuclear weapon will be within the strategic control of the two countries or within that of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation.

The Government have no proposals for an Anglo-French nuclear weapon.

asked the Minister of State for Defence what are the terms of the commitment of the Polaris submarines to the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation.

The Polaris force is committed to N.A.T.O. and this commitment will be maintained. But it would not be in the public interest to publish the detailed arrangements.
