HC Deb 27 October 1970 vol 805 cc76-7W
Mr. Ron Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if Her Majesty's Government have considered the recommendations in the Report of the Working Party on Refuse Collection, published in 1967, and, in particular, the recommendation that there should be an amendment to the law to classify refuse into three categories according to the kind of premises from which it originates.

Mr. Graham Page

The majority of the recommendations are for local authorities to consider. Some requiring Government action have been put into effect; for example provisions concerning dumped rubbish and abandoned motor vehicles have been enacted into the Civic Amenities Act 1967, and there is now a Standing Committee to stimulate research and the application of new techniques in dealing with refuse. The other recommendations, including the one concerning classification of refuse into three categories, will be considered in conjunction with any recommendations made by the Working Party on Refuse Disposal, whose report I am expecting shortly.
