§ 67. Sir D. Walker-Smith
asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the present status of the negotiations between the staff and official sides of the Police Council; and whether he can expedite the achievement of a settlement which will give to police officers a 463W remuneration in accordance with the responsible duties which they perform and the need to maintain recruitment.
§ Mr. Arthur Lewis
asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether, in view of the Government's action in granting salary increases of 43 per cent. to higher paid civil servants, he will take steps to enable the police forces to be granted similar increases in their salaries.
