Mr. Molloy

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether the Government accept Recommendation No. 612 on a draft outline law for the active protection of immovable cultural property in Europe which was adopted by the Consultative Assembly of the Council of Europe on 23rd September, 1970; and whether they will adapt their legislation where necessary to the general principles defined in the draft outline law appended to this recommendation.

Her Majesty's Government accept the general principles of Recommendation No. 612.

The Committee of Ministers' Deputies of the Council of Europe have referred the Recommendation and draft law to the appropriate expert committee for its opinion, and will give detailed consideration to the subject after this is received.
