HC Deb 17 November 1970 vol 806 cc360-1W
43. Mr. Temple

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he has studied the Report from the Farm Animal Welfare Advisory Committee dated September, 1970; if he proposes amendments to the existing codes of recommendations for the welfare of livestock; and whether he is now in a position to state his proposals for amendments in the light of the Advisory Committee's recommendations.

Mr. Prior

Yes, and also the report of the State Veterinary Service. Both Reports were placed in the Library of the House on 29th September. My right hon. Friend and I feel that these reports indicate the need for some revisions in the codes, to clarify the intention of certain recommendations and to cover additional points found in the course of the State Veterinary Service survey. We shall shortly be consulting interested organisations on our proposals prior to presenting our final decisions to the House for approval.
