Mr. Gorstasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry whether he is aware of the effect of the monopoly powers exercised by various nationalised corporations on the technological development of the industries associated with them; what representations he has received from representatives of the atomic, aviation, or telecommunications industries on this subject; and what action he proposes to take to deal with the matter.
§ Mr. RidleyI have received representations only on the way in which nuclear research and development is organised, and I am considering these. I am also considering how best to strengthen the machinery for dealing with possible abuse of a monopoly position by any industry.
