HC Deb 10 November 1970 vol 806 c100W
102. Mr. Christopher Brocklebank-Fowler

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will consider introducing legislation to enable local authorities to provide bridging finance for the purchase of older homes.

Mr. Amery

Local authorities have power to lend for house purchase, and they are expected to give priority to purchasers of older houses among other special classes. I do not think that it is necessary, therefore, to seek powers enabling them to make bridging loans, but I will bear my hon. Friend's views in mind.
