HC Deb 10 November 1970 vol 806 cc87-8W
Mr. Meacher

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how long former students who have recently graduated with a professional or technical qualification are enabled to draw supplementary benefit without the requirement of applying for unskilled labour before the allowance is terminated under the four-week rule.

Mr. Dean

Graduates and other skilled workers are normally given, if necessary, three months in which to seek employment appropriate to their qualifications and are then interviewed. If unemployment appears to have been prolonged unreasonably, benefit may be withdrawn after four weeks notice.
