Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Minister for the Civil Service whether he will seek powers for Ministers and Members of Parliament, officials of the House of Commons and civil servants, chairmen and members of nationalised boards to have salary deducted for their first three days of sickness.

Mr. Howell

No. It would be contrary to the trend of ordinary good employer practice to worsen the sick pay provisions of these groups.
