HC Deb 09 November 1970 vol 806 cc68-9W
Mr. Gorst

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) how much gaming machine licence revenue was collected in respect of machines on premises which do not have local authority approval during the period 1st October, 1969, to 30th September, 1970; and what was the cost of collection;

(2) what was the total revenue from gaming machine licence duty for the two years ended 30th September, 1969, and 30th September, 1970; and what was the cost of collecting these duties during each of the two periods.

Mr. Higgins

Net receipts from the gaming machine licence duty for the licence years ended 30th September, 1969, and 30th September, 1970, were about £2.9 million and £8.3 million respectively. It is estimated that about £5.2 million of the latter figure derived from machines on premises without local authority approval. Separate figures for the cost of collecting this licence duty are not available.
