HC Deb 09 November 1970 vol 806 c68W
Mr. Bishop

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is his estimate of the weekly reduction in income tax payable by a man with an earned income of £16 per week, £25 per week, and £30,000 per year, respectively, each having two dependent children, when the reduction of 6d. in the £ standard rate becomes operative.

Mr. Patrick Jenkin

On the assumption that the earned income figures given include family allowance for one child and that both children are under 11, the first man is not liable to income tax and the average weekly reductions of tax in the other cases are 3s. 5d. and £13 7s. 3d. respectively.
