asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many applications were received by local education authorities in the years 1960 to 1969, inclusive, for discretionary awards for courses up to and including first degrees; how many were given major awards, minor awards and maintenance allowances, respectively, each year in the period 1960 to 1969, inclusive; and how many applicants were refused financial assistance of any kind in each year in the period 1960 to 1969, inclusive.

No information is available about the total number of applications received or the number rejected. The number of full-value awards and lesser-value awards granted by the local education authorities in England and Wales to students attending full-time and sandwich courses at universities and further education establishments at undergraduate and lower level and current in the year shown is as follows:
