Mr. Laurance Reed

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will redraw the area covered by the South-East Lancashire and North-East Cheshire Passenger Transport Authority so as to exclude the independent county borough of Bolton.

Mr. Graham Page

No.

Mr. Charles R. Morris

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will initiate a study into the practicability of a limited experiment in the provision of free public transport in the South-East Lancashire and North-East Cheshire Passenger Transport Authority area.

Mr. Graham Page

No system of public transport is free. It is simply paid for by ratepayers or taxpayers as opposed to the travelling public. I have no plans for such an experiment.
