HC Deb 04 November 1970 vol 805 cc398-9W
Mr. Sheldon

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is the average cost incurred in issuing each passport.

Mr. Kershaw

The cost of each standard passport and British visitor's passport issued in the United Kingdom during 1969 is calculated at 29s. and 6s. 8d., respectively. However, the current cost of passport and consular services, excluding consular services related to export promotion and visa and immigration work, is £12.7 million, towards which passport and consular fees at present levels contribute £4.2 million. The new scale of fees referred to by my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer on 27th October will yield an estimated extra £6 million in a full year.—[Vol. 805, c. 39.]
