asked the Secretary of State for Defence what is the total value of non-defence work undertaken by the Royal Ordnance factories in the latest year for which figures are available.

Mr. Richard:

The total value of civil work completed by Ministry of Defence Royal Ordnance Factories in 1969–70 was £1,974,000. In this context, civil work embraces orders placed by commercial concerns, government departments (other than the Ministries of Defence and Technology), nationalised industries and public corporations.
