Mr. Burden

asked the President of the Board of Trade what was the total number of Civil Servants employed by his Department in 1964, and the annual cost; and what were the figures on 31st December, 1968, and the relevant figures on 30th April, 1970.

There were inter-Departmental transfers of work and staff during the period covered by the question. Staff were transferred to the Board of Trade from Ministry of Transport in 1965 and 1969 and from the Ministry of Aviation in 1966. Staff were transferred from the Board of Trade to the Diplomatic Service in 1964, to the British Museum in 1966, to the Ministry of Technology in 1966 and 1969, and to the Department of Employment and Productivity in 1969.
