The estimates for Northern region for June, 1964(b) and later dates were calculated by a revised method and are not strictly comparable with those for June, 1964(a) and earlier dates. The estimates for June, 1969 for Northern region published in the March, 1970 issue of the Employment and Productivity Gazette include for the first time improved information about the location of employees in employment in the distributive trades. They are thus not fully comparable with estimates for earlier dates. The effects of this change have been measured and alternative estimates which exclude the new information have been calculated for June, 1969 in order that comparisons may be made with estimates for earlier dates. In the above table, estimates for Northern region are shown on both bases, (a) excluding and (b) including the new information about the location of employees in the distributive trades.

tively in the month of June in each of the last 10 years.

Mr. Dell:

The following is the information:

Estimates for Gateshead for June, 1969 are expected to become available later this month.
