HC Deb 13 May 1970 vol 801 cc274-5W
30. Mr. Bryant Godman Irvine

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what representations he has received on an increase in the dog licence fee; what reply he has sent; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Mackie:

On various occasions my right hon. Friend has been asked to raise the licence fee, to keep it as it is, and to abolish it. It has been represented that an increased fee would reduce the problems associated with stray dogs or dogs allowed to roam free by irresponsible owners. Whether an increase in the fee would solve these problems or even contribute to their solution is a matter of conjecture.
